Community Christmas lunch hinges on its helpers

-

Christmas is fast approaching and so is Tūrangi’s free community Christmas lunch.

River of Life Church is again busy organising the lunch and needs your help.

Every year on Christmas Day for the last 17 years or so, 150 to 200 people have headed to the Tūrangi Senior Citizens Hall at 12.30pm for a yummy cooked Christmas lunch. Anyone and everyone is welcome — it could be people on their own, visitors to Tūrangi, families who struggle with all the extra costs Christmas brings, or people who simply want to come along and share the day with others.

Christmas lunch will be hot meats with all the trimmings — ham, chicken, pork — plus vegetables and salads. That will be followed by a scrumptious dessert featuring trifle, pavlova, ice cream and fruit salad.

Presents for people aged from newborn to senior citizens are needed for Santa to distribute on the day. It would be greatly appreciated if they could be wrapped and labelled, stating the age and gender of the person it would suit. These can be dropped off at Unichem Tūrangi Pharmacy.

Organisers need helpers on Christmas Eve from 1pm onwards to help set up the hall and prepare the vegetables for cooking. They also need helpers on Christmas Day from 7am onwards to help cook and serve the lunch and finish preparing the salads and desserts, and finally more helpers to do all the dishes and tidy up the hall afterwards.

Please contact Pastor Steve Hollis if you can offer any assistance or wish to be involved in any way. His contact numbers are 386 6820 and 021 074 6435.
