THUMBS UP & DOWN

-

■ Thumbs up to all those who kindly made a donation on Poppy Day this year. Together we fundraised $10,867, every dollar of which will remain here in Taupo¯ and go toward supporting our local veterans and their families.

■ Thumbs up to Arun at Warehouse Stationery for being so very helpful and pleasant when I needed help with my printer. An extremely nice and knowledgeable young man.

■ Thumbs up to Tristy and Shaun Vadnjal from Tall Poppy Real Estate for their really good and friendly service to us in our journey to buy a house. Very much appreciated.

■ Thumbs up to both Bottle’O Taupo¯ and Liquorland Taupo¯ for their support to the Taupo¯ RSA on Anzac Day, your support is appreciated.

■ Thumbs up to Hermie at Morrell Motors for his excellent customer service when he reset a function on my car. You’re a star. Thanks so much.

■ Thumbs up to the Taupo¯ & Tu¯ rangi Weekender for its great story about the little church being renovated on Huka Falls Rd. I hadn’t realised it had such an interesting history. And thumbs up to Northlit Developments for the great job they are doing there.

■ Thumbs up to Murray and Bronwyn at Supervalue Paetiki for their continued support of the Cosmopolitan Leisure Marching Team. Also Robbie for being Master of Ceremonies for many of our events since 1996, Melissa for her excellent marshalling and Robin the music man. Thanks for helping make our Mayday event so successful.

■ Thumbs down to the badtempered driver of the red car last Saturday, tailgating and weaving around behind other cars that were sticking to the speed limit. You were clearly running late for something but there’s no need to take it out on the other drivers on the road.

■ Thumbs down to Weekender for publishing half of a previous thumbs up/down submitted. As a result it completely gave the wrong impression that I supported retailers who sought GST on purchases made offshore. I do not. In fact it has made me look at making more purchases offshore and not support purchasing locally.

■ Thumbs down to the 10 Taupo¯ District councillors who voted for Ma¯ ori wards. We will remember who you are at the next elections.

■ Thumbs down again to local fuel prices being among the highest in the country. Also to those who state it is because of transport costs.

This is not correct.

■ Thumbs down to whoever picked up my Pandora open silver bangle on April 15 in a well-known building in Taupo¯ , you will know which one. You may keep the bangle but remember when you are wearing it, it was of a great sentiment to an elderly lady who is very upset.

■ Do you have a bouquet or a brickbat? Email your thumbs up/ thumbs down to us at news@taupoweekender.co.nz, message Taupo Weekender on Facebook or drop them into our office in Waipapa House, Paora Hapi St, Taupo¯ . Thumbs up/thumbs down may be edited or abridged. Personal attacks or thumbs down that refer to easily-identifiable people, businesses or groups won’t be published.
