CHANGES TO TAUPŌ DISTRICT LIBRARIES SYSTEM
TAUPŌ DISTRICT LIBRARIES are making changes to the system used for library catalogues, customer records and various other library services.
At present, library membership details are held in data centres located in Christchurch and Auckland. From 17 May 2024, this data will be moved to secure data centres in Melbourne and Adelaide used by our vendor (SirsiDynix Ltd). While the look and feel of some services may alter slightly, there will be no significant change in the user experience. These changes are in line with those being made by the National Library of New Zealand and 40 other local councils throughout the country.
While these changes are being made,
from 8pm on Wednesday 15 May through to 8am on Friday 17 May,
access to library accounts and electronic resources will be unavailable. This includes ePlatforms such as eBooks and eAudiobooks.
Members will still be able to check books out at any of the district’s libraries, as long as you have your library card with you. We do ask that you try not to return books during this time as staff will not be able to scan them in until the update is complete.
The reason for this change is so the libraries can continue to offer modern library services and to maintain robust security of library and customer information. In the constantly evolving and fastmoving world of technology services, library management systems must be future-proofed.
In addition to continuing to provide a secure service to customers, making these changes now also means that the systems will be able to benefit from future enhancements.
