A wedding with a difference
Every bride and groom want their wedding to be different from others and without going down the themed line (steam punk, Star Wars, and the like) there are several ways you can make your wedding different and add that point of difference.
Time of the day
While a lot of couples get married in the afternoon with the reception going into the evening. There is no reason you couldn’t get married in the morning and have a lunch time reception. Imagine looking out to the sparkling ocean during your reception with a beautiful sea breeze. I have been to a late winter wedding that was quite magical with an absolute saturation of fairy lights and clusters of beautiful tall white more candles, it was a memorable and special wedding.
Food
Depending on what style of reception you are having, there are so many options now available for food. If you are having a very relaxed wedding, why not consider food trucks and a drinks van. Other ideas are shared platters, grazing boards, or different food stations. When my son had his New Zealand wedding, having already married in Spain, he had someone come and cook some paellas for the main meal and then he turned his little travelling van into a lolly and ice cream van. It all went down so well with the guests who also got to experience a taste of his life in Spain.
Transport
Why not a lovely vintage car to arrive in, or a boat ride from venue to venue, horse and buggy, golf cart, train or even a helicopter . . .. what fun!
Venue
While some may like a traditional venue, there are so many other ideas for venues such as the beach, river, garden, (public or private), woolshed, in the bush, on top of a mountain, or even in front of the Eiffel tower!
The dress
Why not have colour, your wedding dress does not have to be white, go for something different bright and bold. Shock the guests!
Customise
Try and make a lot of the wedding signage and decoration yourself, this will give it an individualised touch and will not be like other weddings. I know it seems like a lot of extra work, but it is worth it. Signage to the venue can be made, along with the arch where you are going to stand, place names, seating plan, favours, you can make all of these.
Photo booth
Set up a photo booth and have fun with dress up items for your guests!
And then
Why not design a special cocktail for the special day, have your wedding cake made from rounds of cheese, include your fur babies, have blankets on hand if the evening cools down, what about a mobile bar, include some heirlooms into your decoration, have a funky coffee bar, use nature as your décor, use hay bales for seating if an outside wedding (place a used coffee sack on to avoid being scratchy).
The ideas to make your wedding different is as large as what your imagination is! Have fun!
