Garvin braves rain to win

Rain was the winner in Sunday’s Paul Makuch’s Roofing sponsored scramble with only a handful of golfers managing to complete their rounds at Stewart Alexander Golf Club.

Bill Garvin made a return to the winner’s circle with 41 stableford points, heading off Johnathan Makuch 40, Ross Signal 39 and Bill Shaw 38.

The NEC jackpot was not struck and now stands at $186.

Jacob Carey took out the midweek honours with 41 points from Phil Blundell, Bill Garvin, Owen Heke 38, Chris White, Ray Shilton, George King 37. The mid week NEC jackpot sits at $216.

Entries are now being accepted for the Mid Winter Christmas tournament on June 26.

Peter McGowan was clearly the player of the week at Te Awamutu Golf Club.

The 19.8 handicappe­r recorded wins in Tuesday’s open midweek tournament, the Veterans scramble last Thursday and the all day club scramble on Saturday.

McGowan blitzed the midweek field with 40 stableford, scoring four more points than the runner-up Ray Davies. McGowan was equally dominant heading the Veterans field with 43 stableford, from Richard Woodward 39, Murray Wallis 38, John Hill 37.

He completed the hat-trick of wins, finishing equal first with Percy Kapa, who also accumulate­d 41 stableford, on Saturday.

The women’s club day (Wednesday) nett scramble winners were Dale Spiers (senior) with 73 and Christine Lloyd (intermedia­te) 73. Twos were scored by Elaine Troutbeck and Margaret Johnson.
