Garvin braves rain to win

Rain was the win­ner in Sun­day’s Paul Makuch’s Roof­ing spon­sored scramble with only a hand­ful of golfers man­ag­ing to com­plete their rounds at Ste­wart Alexan­der Golf Club.

Bill Garvin made a re­turn to the win­ner’s cir­cle with 41 sta­ble­ford points, head­ing off Johnathan Makuch 40, Ross Sig­nal 39 and Bill Shaw 38.

The NEC jack­pot was not struck and now stands at $186.

Ja­cob Carey took out the mid­week hon­ours with 41 points from Phil Blun­dell, Bill Garvin, Owen Heke 38, Chris White, Ray Shilton, Ge­orge King 37. The mid week NEC jack­pot sits at $216.

En­tries are now be­ing ac­cepted for the Mid Win­ter Christ­mas tour­na­ment on June 26.

Peter McGowan was clearly the player of the week at Te Awa­mutu Golf Club.

The 19.8 hand­i­cap­per recorded wins in Tues­day’s open mid­week tour­na­ment, the Vet­er­ans scramble last Thurs­day and the all day club scramble on Satur­day.

McGowan blitzed the mid­week field with 40 sta­ble­ford, scor­ing four more points than the run­ner-up Ray Davies. McGowan was equally dom­i­nant head­ing the Vet­er­ans field with 43 sta­ble­ford, from Richard Wood­ward 39, Mur­ray Wal­lis 38, John Hill 37.

He com­pleted the hat-trick of wins, fin­ish­ing equal first with Percy Kapa, who also ac­cu­mu­lated 41 sta­ble­ford, on Satur­day.

The women’s club day (Wed­nes­day) nett scramble win­ners were Dale Spiers (se­nior) with 73 and Chris­tine Lloyd (in­ter­me­di­ate) 73. Twos were scored by Elaine Trout­beck and Mar­garet John­son.
