Chilly ride for win­ter se­ries cy­cle races at Good­wood

Chilly con­di­tions greeted the 154 rid­ers who signed on for week five of the Spo­ken Cy­cles Win­ter Se­ries race at Good­wood.

Melinda Lo­daer re­ports that there was some great rac­ing and well-con­tested sprint fin­ishes on the Fen­court Rd, Aspin Rd, Flume Rd cir­cuit.

Olympian Dy­lan Ken­nett won the A grade race for the sec­ond week run­ning, fin­ish­ing the 42km four sec­onds clear of the eight strong chas­ing group in a time of 54.47 min­utes. Josh Kuys­ten and Lo­gan Grif­fin claimed the mi­nor plac­ings.

The B grade ‘even group’ race was won by Mike Woodd, from Tim Carswell and Adam Downey in 1.00.25. Mike Gascoigne won the B grade ‘odd group’ race in 59.39, from Peter Caud­well and Ni­cole Shields.

An­drew Richards, Trevor Fo­ley and Al­lan Mark com­pleted the C grade ‘even group’ podium. The first 22 rid­ers were all cred­ited with the same time as Richards of 1.05.33.

John Cal­land took out the C grade ‘odd group’ race in 1.03.09. It was another huge fin­ish in­volv­ing 19 rid­ers with Jarod Walsh and Hamish Colt­man claim­ing the mi­nor plac­ings.

Nicola Lewis just pipped Mike Liv­ing­stone and Neil Gibb win­ning the D grade race in 1.09.48.

Nine of the E grade field fin­ished the two laps in 50.48 with the first three home be­ing Kevin Baker, Gra­ham Dal­las and Har­ri­son Shaw.

The Un­der 15 one lap, sealed hand­i­cap race was dom­i­nated by rid­ers off 6.5 min­utes. Jade Perry won in 27.25 min­utes, from Olivia Knee­bone and Ja­cob D’Ath. Fastest time of 22.24 went to scratch rider Maui Mor­ri­son.

Next Sun­day’s race will be around the Puahue cir­cuit.
