Christmas (parade) is coming to Te Awamutu
Te Awamutu Rotary Club has stepped up to take over the organisation of the Christmas Parade following the announcement that the small, volunteer group previously responsible was retiring.
Rotary president Chris Kay says members agreed the event was too important and too good to let go — so the club voted to take over the event.
“It is a good opportunity to promote our club and the town,” says Chris.
Main sponsor Gisler Architects is staying on board, and the members of the former committee are all offering their expertise in one form or another.
The Rotary/Gisler Architects Christmas Parade will take place on Saturday, December 8 and generally follow the same format as previous years.
Chris says the club is concentrating their efforts on the parade, so there will not be a picnic in the park afterwards.
The club aims to have an online registration process up and running soon and is looking at some new initiatives — one being to auction off the right to lead the parade and another to bring up the rear with Santa Claus on board.
“We’ll also be looking for volunteers to help with the event,” says Chris.
“One of the main jobs will be simply providing manpower on the day to ensure the huge crowd that enjoys the annual Christmas Parade is safe.”
