Art helps Cambodia

-

An art exhibition in Te Awamutu will help Cambodian slum children receive an education.

Te Awamutu residents are invited to the event, which includes a Devonshire tea, piano recital and an exhibition by New Zealand artists, next weekend.

All funds raised from the event go to charitable organisation Flame Cambodia.

Flame Cambodia was initially founded as The Bong Paoun Project by a French missionary named Timothee Paton before rebranding in 2015 when Te Awamutu woman Sue Hanna became the new head of the organisation.

The charity provides education opportunities for slum children in Cambodia.

The event in Te Awamutu is supported by New Zealand Art for Charity, a group which hosts art exhibitions to raise money for charities.

The art exhibition features 50 works of art, including photos and prints, for sale by various New Zealand artists.

Hamilton pianist Elizabeth Murray will be performing and a Flame Cambodia stall will sell crafts, scarves and handbags created by Cambodian children.

The event is at St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church Hall on Sunday, October 28 from 2pm to 3.30pm. The art exhibition is open to public viewing from 11am to 2pm.

Buy $20 tickets to the event from the Flame Cambodia stand at the Te Awamutu market in the council carpark on Saturday morning or by contacting Rebecca on 027 290 2670 or Cheryl on 871 4392.
