Magic worn down

-

Post round two of ANZ Premiership netball, Bernie Marshall of McDonald’s leads the pickster pack after guessing nine out of eleven games correctly for the season.

Stewart & Cavalier’s Debbie Pitcon sits in second place with one less correct guess than Bernie.

The group are slowly starting to split up positions as NZME’s Tania King is in third place while Paper Plus’ Murray Green and LJ Hooker’s Rhonda McGuire take out fourth spot equally.

The table is rounded off by Harcourts’ Melanie Barker in fifth place.

The Splice Construction Magic were convincingly beaten by the Tactix 45-36 at the Auckland Netball Centre on Friday.

It was the Tactix third game in seven days and they had also overcome a stomach bug which swept through the team over the weekend.

Results of timely turnovers transpired into a growing confidence on attack for the Magic with wing attack Whitney Souness providing the impetus as shooters

Abigail Latu-Meafou and Kelsey McPhee found their groove under the hoop.

Taking the lead for the first time in the match, a run of six straight goals pushed the Magic further ahead before they rounded out the first half with a 22-19 lead at the main break.

In the second half the Tactix completely shut their opponents out of the game with the Magic posting just seven goals in each of the third and fourth quarters.

Tactix goal attack Te Paea Selby-Rickit rose to the occasion and the Tactix took the wind completely out of Magic’s sails with a gamewinning seven-goal unanswered spurt.

The Splice Construction Magic will take on the Central Pulse on Sunday at 5pm followed by the Southern Stars on Monday at 7pm.

Both games will be played at the Auckland Netball Centre.
