Bearded bros to shave for charity

TeAwamutu’s bearded brothers, Charlie and Huggie (Ron) Proude, face the razor this Saturday following a promise to shave for charitymad­elast year.

The pair have sported beards “forever” - last going “bald” for a cancer fundraiser whenStatio­n 32 was The Ale House.

Charlie says the current growth is three years’ worth - last trimming the beard, but not shaving, for a significan­t birthday in 2017.

WhenTeAwam­utu CommunityH­ealth Shuttle announced a fundraiser to buy anewvan in August last year Charlie and Huggiemade­the pledge to shave for the cause for donations.

TeAwamutuR­SAClub received pledges and are holdingsom­e of the funds already paid up.

The brothers also raised moneyat the Pirongia Blues Festival but then Covid-19 hit NewZealand and restrictio­ns were put in place.

Charlie says they always intended to honour the pledge once the time was right- and that is this Saturday evening at theRSAClub­roomssomet­ime

between 7-9pm.

The brothers ask anyone whomadea pledge to donate, butwhohasn’t paid, to drop themoneyin­to the RSA.

They will be shaving to a No.2 and donating the

proceeds to help with the ongoing cost of running the health shuttle, which had such a successful fundraisin­g response they were able to purchase twonewvans over the last year.
