Colin’s passion project up for auction
Iron Park full of vintage tractors and farm machinery
Since giving upmilking cows about 20 years ago Colin Pinkerton’s passion has been collecting and restoring vintage tractors, cars and farm machinery and implements.
Whenhe and wife Lynn built on their retirement property on Pirongia Rd, sheds for workshops and housing the growing collection were also a priority.
AndColin didn’t just keep his passion to himself— Iron Park as the propertywasknown— becameawell knownprivatemuseumand the Pinkertons hosted visiting car, machinery, tractor and service clubs over the years, as well as small groups and locals keen to see the contents.
“Wewould have hosted thousands of people over the years,” says Colin.
Nowhealth concerns and planning for the future sees the whole collection about to go under the hammer.
Colin says it isn’t just big items— it is everything.
Whatstarted as cars, tractors and farm implements grew to include radios, telephones, tools . . . if itwas old and could be fixed and displayed it seemed tocometo Iron Park.
Colin says people would donate things to the museum, so the collection started taking on a life of its own.
The Pinkertons plan to try and sell everything, apart from a couple of special vehicles, to clear the sheds and pave thewayfor moving forward.
Colin says asmanyitems were donated, someof the proceeds will be donated to local charitable causes to reflect that.
Hesayssome of the items were offered back to the peoplewho donated them, but in general they are happy with what is proposed.
The auction will take place on site and online on Saturday, December 5.
