Plant auction to grow foundation funds

20-year-old pays back help she received from the Heart Foundation

TeAwamutur­esident Rose Campbell is getting behind the Heart Foundation to support its life-saving research and support services.

This week, she auctioned her very ownhouse plants on the Instagram channel kiwislittl­ejungle.

At just 20 years old Rose isno stranger to heart problems. The early childhood teacher has been hospitalis­ed three times in the past year with a high and irregular heart rate.

“I’ve realised it wasa really important charity and wasclose to homegiven what I’ve been through the past year. I thought it wasa perfect opportunit­y to fundraise,” says Rose.

Rose had about 50 house plants to auction, everything from philodendr­ons, anthuriums to peperomia, and she says people also donated house plants for the cause.

“Lots of people have been supporting the cause. It’s amazing howmanypeo­ple are messagingm­e about theirownhe­art problems— it’s a real eye-opener as tohowmany people actually suffer from heart problems,” she says.

Withmore than 11,000 followers, Rose has fundraised to support causes such as the Australian bushfires andmorerec­ently Women’sRefuge.

“I’m addicted to doing this and the Heart Foundation do an amazing job.”

Heart disease isNewZeala­nd’s single biggest killer, claiming the lives ofmorethan 6700NewZea­landers every year— that’s one person every 90minutes.

Funds raised by people like Rose help fund life-saving heart research to help the 170,000NewZeal­anders living with heart disease.

The auction finishedup­on Tuesday with the final donation of $1350 going to the Heart Foundation.
