Jowett Car Club to visit Te Awamutu
Seventy-year-old cars will be spotted around TeAwamututhis Saturday and Sundaywhenthe Jowett Car Club holds theirweekendaway.
Jowett cars weremadein Bradford, England, from 1910 and continued until 1953.
The vehicles that will be remembered most inNewZealand are the Javelin Saloon, Jupiter sports car and the little two-cylinder Bradford trucks and vans, all from the 48-53 era. Allmodels had the trademark horizontally opposed engine.
The Jowett popularitywasmost prominent in 1951 and cars attending thisweekendare from this era and are around 70 years old.
Theweekendwill consist of a visit to a carmuseumon thewaydown, lunch at the Punnet Cafe´, a visit to a private car collection near Te Awamutuand adinner.
Sunday morning is a visit to the Rose Gardens and other TeAwamutu landmarks, morning tea at Pirongia and a visit to a goat farm before concluding with lunch at the Classic CarMuseumin Hamilton.
The public is invited to view the carson Sunday between 9.15am10amat the Rose Gardens.
