Big crowd attends annual craft fair
Over 10,000 people got out to attend the 23rd TeAwamutuAnnual Craft Fair earlier this monthat Selwyn Park. There were 110 stalls this year, a record for the fair, boasting onlyNewZealand madeor assembled products.
Items included art work, clothing, plants, crystals, food items, small furniture, jewellery and upcycled homewares.
The fair is organised by the staff at the TeAwamutu Information Centre— manager Bea Schiller, Carol Marsh, Claire Roigard andThomasAdams.
“The general feedbackwegot from peoplewas that they had a good day sales wise,” says Bea.
Food cart Captain KaiMoana sold out in half the day and Jean Boon, whowasselling original artwork, expressed to Bea and the team that it wasthe best market day she has ever had.
Dueto Covid-19 the team lost nearly three months of crucial planning time.
Registrations usually open in July but this year they didn’t open until September.
“Wedidn’t want to do all this work andmaybeendupnot having the market, but at the end of September itwas announced thatwewould go to level 1 sowe said right let’s do it,” says Bea.
