Marist made to fight hard by Kaihere for win

Te Awamutu Marist played Kaihere on Saturday at Castleton Park in the Waikato Valley40 over cricket competitio­n.

Marist won the toss and put Kaihere into bat. Some tight bowling and fielding saw Kaihere 53/5 at the drinks break.

Kaihere looked to come out more positive with the bat after the break adding 90 before they were bowled out for 143 after 38.2 overs.

The pick of the Marist bowlers were Abhishek Merwade, with 2-13 from 7.2 overs, and Gary Muraahi, 2-18 from 8 overs.

Marist started the chase well, getting to 45 before losing Eoin Lenehan, for 22, reaching 98 before losing their second wicket.

The third wicket fell to a runout in quick time before Gary Muraahi (21*) and Vinay More (47*), who carried this bat through the innings, saw Marist claim the win.

Gary Muraahi was the Redoubt Bar and Eatery-sponsored Marist player of the day.

Marist are away to Te Awamutu Sports Gold this weekend in a local Challenge Cup matchup.
