Te Puke shooters on target at inter-island championsh­ip

The North Island v South Island Championsh­ip was held in Nelson recently with six Te Puke shooters included in the various North Island rep teams shooting indoors over 25 yards.

Tony Beaver and Rory McLeod were selected for the North Island Indoor Open team.

Ann Harris, Allison Archer, and Fiona Spence gained selection for the North Island Indoor Ladies team while Neil Harris joined Ann in the North Island Indoor Veterans team.

The 20-person North Island Open Team soundly beat the South Island 7844.440 to 7779.360.

The 15-person North Island Indoor Ladies team nudged ahead of the South Island Ladies with 5844.294 to 5835.281. Samantha Riddle from Tauranga top scored in this match.

The 10-person North Island Junior team lost 3853.149 to SI Juniors 3867.158, but the 10-person North Island Veterans team had a win, 3912.185 to 3874.153.

From these matches Beaver and McLeod were selected as part of a New Zealand Indoor Open team to shoot a postal match against UK home counties, who will shoot later this year in their season.

Beaver achieved the second-highest score with McLeod scoring third equal with Roy Herbison from Tauranga. Top scorer was Commonweal­th Games shooter Ryan Taylor from Levin.

Beaver only dropped six out of the 800 points targeted, while McLeod only dropped eight points.

Harris and Spence were selected for the New Zealand Indoor Ladies, ranking sixth and seventh respective­ly, with Riddle in fifth.

Harris also achieved selection for the New Zealand Indoor Veterans, ranking fourth.

Riddle and Julian Craib from Tauranga ranked one and two in the New Zealand Indoor Juniors, with Emily Hammond from Rotorua placing sixth.

Alison Fursdon from Tauranga was selected as manager for the North Island Open and New Zealand Open teams.
