Ota­mara¯kau to get kinder­garten

ta­mara¯kau is to have its own kinder­garten from the mid­dle of next month.

ta­mara¯kau Kinder­garten is sched­uled to open on Oc­to­ber 15 after a pub­lic open day on Oc­to­ber 13.

The for­mer play­cen­tre is in a beau­ti­ful ru­ral set­ting aimed at con­nect­ing peo­ple with na­ture and en­cour­ag­ing au­then­tic hands-on learn­ing.

“It is a re­ally ex­cit­ing time for the ta­mara¯kau com­mu­nity, es­pe­cially for our chil­dren”, says

ta­mara¯kau Kinder­garten Es­tab­lish­ment Com­mit­tee mem­ber Anna James.

“The pos­i­tive re­sponse and sup­port from the com­mu­nity has been amaz­ing and we can’t wait for it to open and to get started.”

Deb­bie Dag­ger, a highly ex­pe­ri­enced and in­no­va­tive teacher from nearby Paen­garoa Kinder­garten, will be the head teacher.

“We want to cre­ate a spe­cial place that gives chil­dren the room to run, dis­cover, cre­ate and imag­ine,” she says. “A place where child­hood is cel­e­brated and un­hur­ried.

“We wel­come all fam­i­lies and wha¯nau to come and en­joy a cuppa in our stun­ning nat­u­ral en­vi­ron­ment and meet our fan­tas­tic teach­ers.”

The kinder­garten is cur­rently tak­ing en­rol­ments.

The new kinder­garten will op­er­ate un­der the um­brella of In­spired Kin­der­gartes.

“We see this as a great op­por­tu­nity and are ex­cited to be engaged with a new and sup­port­ive com­mu­nity,” says prin­ci­pal Peter Mon­teith.

In­spired Kindergartens and Home Based Ed­u­ca­tion of­fers qual­ity preschool ed­u­ca­tion to over 900 chil­dren through its net­work of 21 kindergartens and home-based ed­u­ca­tion ser­vices.
