Te Puke focus for meeting

-

Tauranga Historical Society’s monthly meeting will have a strong Te Puke focus in October.

Te Puke’s Maree Lewis will give a talk on three Te Puke women who voted in the first election following the 1893 Electoral Act that gave women the right to vote in parliamentary elections.

Maree doesn’t want to reveal their names before her talk, but their families still live in the Te Puke area.

Historical society president Julie Green says the talk marks the 125th anniversary of the Act and will be of interest to people in Te Puke.

The meeting takes place on October 7 at Brain Watkins House, on the corner of Cameron Rd and Elizabeth St in Tauranga.

There is a charge of $2, the talk begins at 2pm and will be followed by afternoon tea.
