Te Puke locals outlined their expectations of future growth to SmartGrowth Leadership Group members at a well-attended meeting last week.

SmartGrowth was looking for responses to its Future Development Strategy and received many considered and clearly expressed views from those attending.

Many of the speakers urged SmartGrowth to accelerate growth in areas like Te Puke, Paengaroa and Pongakawa.

People also spoke strongly in support of accelerating development of the Rangiuru Business Park, while others urged greater use of rail, cycle paths and walkways as better transport options.

Environmental and social issues featured prominently too, with speakers arguing for more housing options for the burgeoning kiwifruit industry and its growing workforce.

The meeting was co-hosted by Te Puke EDG’s Mark Boyle.

“Present was a broad crosssection of our economic sectors and community who were consistent in their messaging,”

“They are equipped to deliver high-quality housing and to make the necessary financial contributions for infrastructure. Kiwifruit industry growth and the planned Rangiuru Business Park will deliver continuing economic growth and an increased need for housing.”

Consultation on the Future Development Strategy and the Tauranga Urban Strategy closes on November 5. People can read the documents and make a submission at www.smartgrowthbop.org.nz.
