Mckenzie’s ton of runs lead to big win CRICKET

Flying Mullet Te Puke premier cricket team had a big win over Rotorua visitors Craigs Investment Partners Geyser on Saturday when they posted close to 300 runs in their turn at bat at the Te Puke Domain.

Te Puke keeper Blair Mckenzie belted one of three Baywide centuries of the weekend, with an unbeaten 115.

Batting at four, Mckenzie was in sublime touch as his side set the Rotorua team a substantia­l target, reaching 294 for four wickets.

Geyser were never in the hunt, with Sathist Krishnamoo­thy’s top score of 35 runs standing out like a beacon, as the visitors were removed for 106. The Te Puke wickets were shared around with Hamish Wilde producing the best return of 3/23.

Eve’s Realty Greerton lost the toss and were asked to bat first in their match-up with Pa¯ pa¯ moa. Greerton opener Taylor Bettleheim controlled his side’s momentum, carrying his bat in posting 107 not out, in his team’s total of 220 for the loss of six wickets.

Pa¯ pa¯ moa opening batsman Andrew Goldsmith kept the reply ticking over before being removed for 55, with player/coach Matt Horne adding 40 runs before his side were bowled out for 176.

Pa¯ pa¯ moa Reserve Grade side were another to post an avalanche of runs, reaching 289 with one wicket in hand, in their encounter with Aquinas College. Simon Clotworthy topscored with a hard-fought 48 runs. The Aquinas students made a valiant attempt for victory, before the

Pa¯ pa¯ moa bowlers shut down the Aquinas reply, to bowl them out for 176.

Te Puke’s Reserve Grade side simply didn’t post enough runs in the reply to R&A Sangha’s total of 207, being bowled out for 100. Scott Struiksma was the best of the Te Puke batting lineup, top-scoring with 29 runs.

Te Puke won the Te Puke region B Grade local derby when they beat Papaomas in a relatively low-scoring affair. Te Puke batted first and were dismissed for 140, before the Te Puke bowlers got amongst the Pa¯ pa¯ moa side’s batsmen to bowl them out for 110. Individual match honours belonged to Te Puke batsman Navjet Sohal with 29 runs and PAPAOMA bowler Tony Jackson with three wickets for 27 runs.

Katikati caused a minor upset in getting past Pa¯ pa¯ moa Wanderers, who are the defending B Grade titleholde­rs. Katikati reached 158 all out and were then removed for 142, to give the team from Western Bay’s northern extremitie­s a 16-run win.
