It’s party time in Paihia with two winter events

-

Get ready to party in Paihia this winter.

Two events are coming together in a bid to attract vital business to the area this July – the Bay of Islands Beast Street Party and the Bay of Islands Beast Mud Run.

Paihia’s first mid winter street party will be held on Williams Rd and Paihia Lanes on July 9 from 4-8pm, and follows the mud run – where participants run, walk or crawl the tough 7km course navigating swamps, river crossings, mud, steep hills and rugged terrain – which starts at 10.45am.

The mud run prize giving will be held at the street party, along with music by local bands JB Rhythm and Rangitane Riot, and food stalls, local vineyards, and a bar.

For kids, there will be a magician and face painting and an open brazier where they can toast marshmallows.

The Paihia Community Centre will host their first fundraising food stall.

The street party is organised by Business Paihia to keep participants from the mud run in town.

Chairman Craig Johnston says the cross country mud run attracts hundreds of visitors to the Bay of Islands at a time of year when business is usually slow for accommodation providers.

‘‘Many people who take part in the two-day event leave the area when the event is over.

‘‘We would like them to come on Friday night and stay on through Saturday night.’’

‘‘And we want everyone from the area to come and join in as well. It is free and we hope that everyone will just come on down and join in.’’
