The people, the scenery the climate - pretty much everything.

I was born in the North of Germany and I came to New Zealand in 1962. I came to The Bay Of Islands in 1963, when the then Waitangi Hotel was being built and I have lived here ever since.

I do not like the look of our roadsides, it is a shame to see our beautiful environmen­t slowly but surely getting overgrown with Gorse, Ginger, Yasmin and all other sorts of noxious weeds. Our council should make a concerted effort to keep these weeds under control.

Go down to The Paihia Volunteer Fire Brigade on training night to mix with the boys and to give a hand with what I can.

Anyone who will help his or her fellow man in times of trouble.

Opua is the spot I would recommend people to come and enjoy.

I would introduce robust long term by-laws that would protect and preserve our most valuable asset, our coastline, for many generation­s to come.

I quite enjoy sitting on our deck taking in the view with my partner and friends enjoying a cold beer, and a good yarn.
