Treasure for book worms

- STAFF REPORTER The book fair is at Bay Sport Stadium, Harmony Lane Waipapa August 5, 2pm-7pm and August 6, 9am-2pm.

Fact, fiction, mystery, and a hint of romance is up for grabs in the books on sale at the Waipapa Rotary Club’s annual book fair.

The club has run the event with the help of generous donations for the past ten years.

Rotary Club spokesman Graeme Brown says people wishing to donate this year can phone him on 027 4372 972 or drop books off at Kwan Garden Creations, Waipapa Autocourt and Kaeo Farm and Fuel.

Apart from thousands of fiction stories it is surprising how other categories fill with very good books to recycle, he says.

‘‘Cooking and gardening books are available in good numbers as are travel books and sports publications and children’s books.

‘‘There is usually a book to suit every person and every preference.’’

Funds raised go towards various Rotary projects including supporting youth educational opportunities and sending emergency food and shelter packs to help with disaster relief both locally and overseas.

They also help manufacture and install park benches on DOC walking tracks.

Books are sorted into categories by Rotary members beforehand.

Stirling Sports at Waipapa have kindly allowed Rotary to use the premises made vacant by their move as a sorting and storage base.
