I like how the sea and the bush are so close together. It’s not overcrowde­d and the people are so helpful, welcoming and supportive. I wasn’t meant to stay in New Zealand long term but I just kept extending my visa and I’ve never left.

I’ve been here 30 years and I’m originally from Germany.

I have no issues, I’m really happy. But New Zealand could support schools and health care more. For example nurses are grossly underpaid and don’t get enough recognitio­n.

Cafe Cinema and Wharepuke.

When my daughter comes home for the weekend or when we go on tiki tours around the place. It’s great to explore on some of the DOC tracks.

Sir Edmund Hillary.

Cape Karikari for its beach’s and Takou Bay is my favourite local beach where I bury some of my marbles for kids to find.

Probably try to support schools and health care more. I’d take out all the speed bumps, in Germany they tried to make the roads as smooth as possible. When I was recovering from my surgeries each little bump was very painful.
