INCREASED CRIME

- Sue Evans Kerikeri

I agree that if a person commits an offence they should be punished no matter what age they are. I have lived in Kerikeri for nine years and in that time, crime has increased. I was a police woman in the UK in the 70s and had to work days and nights patrolling the streets. It is a joke over here.

The police station closes its doors at 5pm and then there may be just one or two police personnel on duty during the night covering most of Northland. It encourages criminals to commit crimes at night because there is little chance of them being caught.

It is a waste of time having panic buttons or other devices in shops if it is going to take a police officer up to an hour to respond. There needs to be more police working after 5pm to deter any incidents and be able to respond within 5-10 minutes.
