BE SAFE

-

Fire and Emergency New Zealand is warning people to be careful with flammable liquids and gasses this summer. ‘‘With summer coming up there are a range of activities where people frequently use highly flammable liquids or gases, such as refuelling of lawnmowers, weed eaters, chainsaws, outboards and replacing BBQ or portable cooker gas cylinders. Always carry out these activities outside, or in a well ventilated area, to avoid the flammable liquids or gases creating a potentially explosive mixture,’’ spokesperson Peter Wilding says. Turn off engines and allow hot surfaces to cool for a few minutes before refuelling. Test gas connections with small amounts of soapy water to check for leaks.
