NZ women’s golf in Kerikeri

- BAYLEY MOOR

The Kerikeri Golf Club are looking forward to hosting their second major tournament in three months.

Over 120 women over 50-yearsold, will descend on the course for the New Zealand women’s senior matchplay tournament for a week from February 19.

Wendy Neil and Pamela Waters will represent their Kerikeri club, while Shona Work and Meryl Mounsey will play for Waitangi. Susannah Starkie (The Pines) with Marie Walker and Jeannie Allen from Sherwood Park in Whangarei round out the Northland contingent taking part.

Kerikeri Golf Club manager Simon Diplock says it is a really significant week for the club.

‘‘It’s a great profile event for us - it will showcase not only the course but Kerikeri,’’ Diplock says. A group of 20 women will be attending the tournament from Australia.

The week begins with a quali- fying tournament on the Monday, followed by seeded matchplay with the final round on Friday February 23.

The Kerikeri club hosted the Veteran Golf Association Championship in December. Diplock says the club is ‘‘very lucky’’ to be selected to host these significant tournaments within close proximity to each other.

‘‘It is great exposure and to be associated with Par NZ who represent New Zealand Golf, it puts the club out there.’’
