WAIRARAPA WINE TASTING Where: Martinboro­ugh When: Daily How much: Varies, about $30-80. Spend an afternoon, or even a whole day, cycling the flat country lanes of Martinboro­ugh, calling into vineyards and olive groves to taste the vintages. There are a handful of bike hire companies available, all offering a variety of options, packages, prices and bikes, including tandems. If the weather is not co-operating, there are driven and hosted tours available too. ‘‘Martinboro­ugh in a Day’’ takes you through the wine village to four vineyards for tastings and tours, a lunch and ends with a personalis­ed olive oil tasting. Pinot to Palliser takes you out to Cape Palliser, to visit Ngawi fishing village, stops off to see the seal colony, Cape Palliser Lighthouse and Lake Ferry Hotel.
