The Victorian crime drama that the BBC axed after only two series has since been resurrected by Amazon for its streaming service in the United Kingdom and United States. Reportedly, it’s as good if not better than its predecessors, which aired here on UKTV. Series II is set a year on from the original, in 1890, when it’s not the ghost of Jack the Ripper that haunts Matthew Macfadyen’s inspector and his H Division team but an enemy within and the dawning of a new era in crime that foreshadows what’s to come in the 20th century. There aren’t any extras but just being able to see the impressive production values in high definition makes the Blu-ray a ripper. (Subtitled.)
