Medic dies
New Zealand medical pioneer Sir Patrick Eisdell Moore has died peacefully in Auckland, aged 97. Sir Patrick was the only Pakeha in the 28th Maori Battalion, graduated in medicine from Otago University in 1941 and went on to serve as a medical officer in World War II. A pioneer of cochlear implants, he established Auckland’s Hearing House and performed the world’s first eardrum transplant.
