Aucklanders score Newtown villa
AN AUCKLAND family bought for an investment a Newtown villa that was auctioned for $75,000 more than its rateable value.
The property, at 43 Owen St, had a rateable value of $600,000 and sold at auction for $675,000.
Built in the 1890s, the 125-square-metre house had threeto-four bedrooms and was on a sunny, landscaped 276sqm section.
‘‘There were three out-of-town bidders in the auction room and one local buyer,’’ Di Austin, of Harcourts, says.
‘‘An Auckland family bought the property as an investment.’’
She describes the house as a comfortable, well-maintained villa that had been extended to meet the needs of a busy family and offer separate living and dining. A RENOVATED character home in Ngaio has sold for well above its rateable value of $580,000.
The three-bedroom house, at 44 Heke St, was on the market for the first time in 30 years and sold for ‘‘well into the $600,000s’’, Paul Dickason, of Professionals Wellington City & Suburbs, says.
Built in the 1950s, it was elevated with views over Ngaio and received six tenders.
‘‘It had been renovated to a high standard and included a modern kitchen, two bathrooms and a double garage with office and internal access,’’ Dickason says.
‘‘It was a gorgeous home with great indoor-outdoor flow to a sunny courtyard and garden and was on a very popular street.’’ A MODERN WAIKANAE home with three bedrooms and a study has been auctioned for $550,000.
The low-maintenance property, at 21 Andrew St, had a rateable value of $530,000.
Karen Fahey, of Harcourts, says the 220sqm, brick-and-tile dwelling had two separate living areas and was on an 806sqm section
‘‘Buyers recognised the attention to detail that had gone into it. Homes of this quality in this location are sought after.’’ A CARTERTON home on a large section with landscaped gardens has sold for $362,000.
The large brick property, at 16 Charles St, had a rateable value of $360,000.
Jo Wisler and Kelly McIsaac, of Leaders, describe it as a lowmaintenance three-bedroom, twobathroom house with an internalaccess double garage on a 1068sqm section.
‘‘The large kitchen was a cook’s dream,’’ McIsaac says.
‘‘It overlooked the open-plan dining room while the living area opened to a sunny pergola area.’’ A MANUKAU bare-land block has sold for about five per cent above its rateable value of $165,000.
The 7950-square-metre property, 281 North Manakau Rd, had views, good soil and a tree-lined entranceway, Grant Robertson, of First National Otaki, says.
‘‘The lovely oak trees and alders lining the entranceway attracted a lot of interest.’’
