Days of celebration

-

I really like how Sam Russell (August 27) has pointed out that Christians are a minority of our country yet force the closure of shops for Easter.

He/she has a valid point. If Christians do make up a minority, why do we continue to celebrate the days off for Christian celebrations. Is there any politician out there with the courage to suggest that all public holidays given to celebrate these days be cancelled.

That would mean that we all go to work on Good Friday, Easter Monday, Christmas Day and of course paid at our ordinary wage.

I for one would not mind using my annual leave to celebrate those days. CLAIRE STEWART Wainuiomata
