A day of rest
Sam Russell complains that Christians ‘‘force us to close our shops on Sundays’’ (August 27).
I don’t know who these domineering Christians are, but discussions at my church are not about how we Christians can control things like shopping hours. Anyhow, it would be foolish to drop the ban on Sunday shopping just because it’s Christian.
What if, regardless of religion, it happens to be a good idea for a person, a family, or even an entire community to have a ‘‘day of rest’’? It may be very healthy for us all to pause, disengage from the maelstrom and come up for air. GAVAN O’FARRELL
