Julia du Fresne is disillusio­ned to think suicide numbers will rise if we make voluntary euthanasia/ assisted dying legal. In fact, if we don’t, the numbers may rise as those suffering choose to take their own lives.

We are not about numbers ending their lives but about having a choice of how our final time is played out. In those countries where voluntary euthanasia is legal, people knowing there is choice are under less stress and go on to have longer lives. Many who have the choice also die naturally without needing assistance to end their lives.
