Eastbourne classic is picture perfect

-

THE QUINTESSENTIAL Eastbourne home, on two titles with five bedrooms and a new kitchen, is for sale by negotiation.

The picturesque property, at 86-88 Muritai Rd, is on the market for the first time since Nancy and Neal Barclay bought it 15 years ago.

Built in the 1920s, the weatherboard-and-Marseilles tile roof house occupies a landscaped 860-square-metre site with threecar garaging, an attached studio with a kitchenette and bathroom, and off-street parking.

‘‘It’s the classic doll’s house look,’’ Nancy says of the 280sqm home where she and her husband raised four children within a stone’s throw of the beach.

‘‘The kids have loved this place, and it’s been a fun family home, but now we’re ready to move into town for the next stage of our lives.’’

She says deciding to sell wasn’t an easy decision, especially as they had just reroofed the house and the garage/studio, painted the house’s seaside exterior, and fitted an opening Louvretec roof over the deck off the kitchen that was remodelled only this year.

‘‘We’re also going to miss living in Eastbourne. Here we’ve got everything: the beach, the bush, the sunshine, a sheltered area, a great community . . .

As soon as you open the front gate to 86-88 Muritai Rd, it’s obvious why the property is part of the NZ House & Garden tour, with its expansive flat lawn, buxus hedging, flagstones, water feature, al fresco terrace, spa tub, in-ground trampoline and patterned pebble-stone path.

The leadlight front door opens into a wide, spacious foyer with polished floorboards, exposed beams, period light switches and extensive rimu joinery.

The large formal lounge, which adjoins a study and opens to a deck, is to the right, and the family room, which has French doors to the al fresco terrace, is to the left.

French doors also open off the dazzling designer kitchen to the deck it shares with the lounge.

The kitchen comfortably accommodates a dining suite as well as a stylish island/breakfast bar and walk-in butler’s pantry.

Chattels include a Smeg double oven, Smeg dishwasher, induction hob, integrated rangehood and Blanco sink.

Upstairs, the main bedroom has a bay window, walk-in wardrobe and ensuite; three of the other bedrooms have sea views and one opens to a balcony.

Other features include a full bathroom with a claw-foot bath, a downstairs shower/toilet, separate laundry, large basement and gas central heating.

"This is the epitome of family living and would be perfect for someone looking to enjoy the wonderful Eastbourne lifestyle,’’ Sinead Diederich, of Tommy’s Real Estate, says. ‘‘I expect it to sell in the region of $2 million.’’

The property has a combined rateable value of $1.42 million.
