Island Bay home fetches $965k
AN ISLAND BAY character home that was just a stone’s skip from the beach has been auctioned for $315,000 more than its rateable value of $650,000.
The property, at 10 Beach St, sold for $965,000 and had not changed hands since 1998.
Paul Titcombe, of Harcourts, says the three-bedroom, twobathroom bungalow afforded ‘‘stunning views of Island Bay and beyond’’.
Built in the 1930s, the home combined open-plan living and a separate scullery and laundry with full insulation, gas central heating, a heat pump and also included a DVS system.
The 130-square-metre dwelling was on a 708sqm section with a single garage and workshop. A TWO-FLAT property in Hataitai has been auctioned for $200,000 more than its rateable value.
The versatile property, at 5 Waipapa Rd, had a rateable value of $720,000 and sold for $920,000.
The original 170sqm dwelling dated to the 1920s.
There was a three-bedroom flat upstairs that was returning $500 a week and one-bedroom flat below that was being rented for $350 a week.
The 425sqm section also included a single lock-up garage with a weekly rental of $35.

The property, at 35 Flotilla Place, had a rateable value of $465,000.
Andy Cooling, of Harcourts, says the 131sqm house was at the end of a cul-de-sac on a 567sqm section with easy-care landscaping.

He marketed the property to executives, retirees and astute investors. A WAIKANAE HOME on a private, landscaped 933sqm section has been auctioned for $650,000.
The property, at 21 Karu Cres, had a rateable value of $530,000.
Built in the 1990s, the 154sqm, single-level brick house had four bedrooms and three bathroom.
