Machete attack

A man’s hand was left ‘‘just’’ hanging on after a machete attack at a home near Dunedin, police say. Senior Sergeant Alastair Dickie said police had responded to reports a man’s hand had been cut off by a machete. A man was arrested outside the house after being confronted by police dogs and officers. Asked if the hand was still attached, Dickie replied ‘‘just’’, before adding ‘‘it is a fairly serious injury’’. Police had not yet located the weapon. Dickie said the victim was in Dunedin Hospital.
