Pence reassures Europe

-

United States Vice President Mike Pence has reassured nervous European leaders that the Trump administration is committed to ‘‘cooperation and partnership’’ with the European Union. His comments were a striking departure from some of President Donald Trump’s comments over the past year, in which he painted the EU in dark terms and praised Britain’s decision to leave the bloc. ‘‘The United States’ commitment to the European Union is steadfast and enduring,’’ Pence said after meeting European Council president Donald Tusk yesterday. He said he was looking forward to greater coordination in dealing with economic matters and fighting terrorism. He also urged peace efforts in Ukraine, promising to push Russia hard.
