National fostering old boys’ environmen­t, says Peters

Former National minister and uber-geek Simon Upton – currently with the Organisati­on for Economic Co-operation and Developmen­t in Paris – is in line to be the next Parliament­ary Commission­er for the Environmen­t, after the retirement of Jan Wright. But NZ First leader Winston Peters said it was another example of how National ‘‘looks after its own’’. ‘‘The appointmen­t of Mr Upton, whose political career was far from a blazing success, smacks of jobs for the boys, and the old boys’ network.’’
