Former National minister and uber-geek Simon Upton – currently with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development in Paris – is in line to be the next Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment, after the retirement of Jan Wright. But NZ First leader Winston Peters said it was another example of how National ‘‘looks after its own’’. ‘‘The appointment of Mr Upton, whose political career was far from a blazing success, smacks of jobs for the boys, and the old boys’ network.’’
