Dangerous delay

-

$630m highway ‘doubles’ commute, you report. Last week, my wife urgently required an ambulance at our home in Kapiti. The journey from Kapiti to Wellington Hospital took one hour and 40 minutes due to hold-ups on State Highway 1.

It is apparent that the engineers planning and constructing the new expressway have never heard of the ‘‘theory of queuing’’, as it relates to issues such as road loading. Had they, the Transmission Gully section would have had a higher priority than the Kapiti Expressway.

There is unhappily no way out of this gross error now.

Obviously very little forethought or planning was put into this aspect. ALAN BAKER Raumati South
