Driver dies after hitting house

A man has died after crashing his taxi into a Christchurch house. Emergency services were called to a property in Avonhead, about 6pm on Wednesday. The man was initially taken to Christchurch Hospital but a police spokeswoman later confirmed he had died as a result of a medical event. A witness said the car suddenly went backwards, through a fence and into a neighbouring house.
