Election every year?

It was a wonderful Budget, generous and helpful to those we care about, the 80 per cent of average Kiwis and those with less.

Those needing the Accommodation Supplement will be grateful when it kicks in – six months after the election. Their landlords will be happy too -– hopefully they won’t simply put up the rent.

And then there are tax cuts, $26 was mentioned, but again that’s six months post election.

One might say that these things should have happened years ago, and we have been repeatedly told how well the country is prospering, but let’s not quibble, it’s election year.

Add to that the recent settlement for those who care for the elderly after nearly two years’ hard and acrimonious fighting with the Government. Also they are giving a large increase in police numbers to fill a need that has been around for years. We will see the effect of that around election time.

And finally there appears to be something happening with housing, very, very overdue that is.

With all these goodies perhaps it would be a good idea to have an election every year. SELWYN BOORMAN
