Ludicrous idea

Let me be the first to congratulate the 8-year-old schoolboy who won the ‘‘My Cuba Street nightmare’’ cut and paste competition (Capital bike lanes a kiwi first, July 25). Maybe when we see the representations of a professional designer/road planner with the true dimensions of Cuba St taken into account, we will see the folly of this ludicrous idea.

Let’s stop pandering to the freewheeling pigeon fanciers and concentrate on pedestrians (who will be at considerably more risk if traffic is allowed to move both ways on Cuba St). Cyclists can walk their bikes through the inner city – it wouldn’t kill them.
