Paraglider hurt in crash

A paraglider has been flown to hos­pi­tal af­ter suf­fer­ing a back in­jury fol­low­ing a crash at a South Taranaki beach. The paraglider crashed about one kilo­me­tre south of Kaupokonui Heads Rd, near the Kaupokonui Stream, about 3.10pm yes­ter­day, a po­lice spokes­woman said. A St John am­bu­lance spokesper­son said the lo­ca­tion of the crash was in­ac­ces­si­ble by road, so a he­li­copter equipped with winch­ing ca­pa­bil­i­ties was brought in from Palmer­ston North. A man with moder­ate in­juries had been flown to Taranaki Base Hos­pi­tal, the spokesper­son said.
