Today THE RISING SUN - A POP ROCK REVUE

With a variety of songs from artists such as Queen, Green Day, Ed Sheeran and Elton John, Wellington Footlights Society’s The Rising Sun revue promises to offer audiences a great night out at your new local. Gryphon Theatre, Ghuznee St; 6.30pm.

Barbers, banter and buzz cuts will be the order of the day at Midland Park from noon until 1.30pm where two of NZ’s best barbers will be offering free cuts to the public in celebratio­n of next year’s New Zealand Festival including headline act, Barber Shop Chronicles, which explores barber shops as safe spaces for men to talk.

Join the Salvation Army Band for an afternoon of free, family fun at Te Papa on Sunday. Sing along to a variety of traditiona­l Christmas carols in the museum’s outdoor amphitheat­re venue, which provides an idyllic setting to enjoy the songs while basking in the sunshine. Performanc­es are at 3pm and 4.45pm.

ISLAND BAY WORKING BEE

Manawa Karioi Ecological Restoratio­n Project is holding its last working bee for the year on Sunday to help sort out the nursery at Tapu te Ranga Marae. The hard work will be rewarded with an end-of-year pot luck afternoon tea. Rhine St; 1pm-3pm.

Join Nanogirl (Michelle Dickinson) and her trusty lab assistant Boris for science and engineerin­g as you have never seen them before. All new experiment­s and explosions - giant sparks, fireballs, and even a real life bed of nails – bring science and engineerin­g to life in the coolest ways possible. The inaugural Beers at the Basin event gets under way from 11am, showcasing some of the best craft breweries, wineries, street food and music that New Zealand has to offer. Basin Reserve, Sussex St; until 7pm.
