Fire in painting booth

Specialist crews were called in to fight a fire in a Petone painting booth. Lower Hutt senior station officer Craig McMillan said crews were alerted at 11.25am yesterday. Six appliances attended from the Hutt Valley and Wellington. The fire started in a workshop and was put out quickly and contained to the building, he said. ‘‘It was a small fire in the panel booth that started from welding. [The fire] was in the extraction system and had spread through most of the building.’’ Two people were treated for smoke inhalation.
