O¯amaru eggs better by half
Yes you can still get the traditional egg-shaped marshmallow egg for Easter. And it will be wrapped in foil. It comes from Rainbow Confectionery in O¯ amaru, so it’s Kiwi-made as well. Cadbury abandoned offering egg-shaped marshmallow Easter eggs this year to massive outrage and dismay. Instead, it revealed a strange half egg, with some loose plastic wrapping inside that hides its half-egg shape. Major chocolate competitor Whittaker’s offers only hollow Kiwi Easter eggs. Queen Anne in Christchurch makes marshmallow half eggs, selling two together as a single serve. But it seems O¯ amaru’s Rainbow Confectionery is the last company standing to make the marshmallow Easter eggs Kiwis traditionally like best. Rainbow sales manager Brett Simmons said the O¯ amaru marshmallow eggs were hand-formed on a production line using 42 extra workers. Rainbow makes 9 million eggs from November to March.
