Billionaire investors at ambitious French club Beziers are targetting All Blacks superstar Beauden Barrett. European reports say Beziers also want former All Blacks midfielder Ma’a Nonu and Welsh sharpshooter Dan Biggar. The club is in the middle of a deal to be bought by wealthy investors from the United Arab Emirates. Beziers are currently battling in the highly competitive French second division but the once-proud club – it has 11 French titles to its name – is desperate to be a major force in Europe again and is prepared to go on a spending spree to achieve that. The club said it held a ‘‘constructive’’ meeting in Paris with the new investors where the current shareholders were reassured about the authenticity of the UAE based bid and their ‘‘financial capacity’’. The buying spree would see the club need to work within the salary cap of €11.3 million (NZ$19.7m), with an extra NZ$350,000 allowed per French international.
Dustin Johnson won the Travelers Championship to end a long drought and extend his career-long season victory streak to 13. Johnson closed with a 3-under 67 for a onestroke victory over Kevin Streelman yesterday at fan-free TPC River Highlands. Johnson last won in Mexico City in March 2019. ‘‘I’m definitely proud of myself for continuing the streak and I want to keep it going,’’ Johnson said. ‘‘It was a long time between wins, though, and, so, hopefully it won’t be that long for the next one.’’ Johnson tapped in for par on the par-4 18th to finish at 19-under 261 for his 21st PGA Tour title. Streelman also shot 67.
