There are eight new cases of Covid-19 in New Zealand, all in managed isolation.

An Air New Zealand flight crewmember who tested positive for the virus has also returned to Auckland, the Ministry of Health said.

The crewmember originally tested negative for the virus in New Zealand on November 18 but returned a positive test on arrival in Shanghai on November 22. They have now been tested again and returned another positive result, this time in New Zealand.

‘‘Further test samples were processed rapidly in our Auckland laboratory and these have returned a positive result, so this is now considered a confirmed case,’’ the ministry said. ‘‘ Our case numbers will report this case tomorrow.’’

All other crewmembers tested negative. A source investigation was under way and swabs had been sent to ESR for genome sequencing, the ministry said.

Seven close contacts and six casual contacts of the crew member also arrived in New Zealand yesterday and were all tested on arrival. They are all in quarantine at Auckland’s Jet Park Hotel.

‘‘We continue to investigate locations of interest the person may have visited in the relevant time period prior to departing on their flight,’’ the ministry said.
