The political side of science

Science, comedy and music are combining into one all-out show in Wellington later this month.

Cosmic Shambles LIVE is variety show exploring science and brought to audiences by UK comedians Robin Ince and Josie Long.

Joining the crew is Kiwi comedian James Nokise, representing the political science side.

Nokise has written for 7 Days, and been nominated for several comedic awards, including the Billy T’s. He’s spent a lot of his time travelling lately but remained a Hutt boy at heart.

‘‘I messaged back and said ‘my St Bernard’s record isn’t that good’,’’ he joked.

Nokise will be bringing his particular brand of political comedy to the show.

‘‘[The organisers] wanted stand up but they wanted it from a different angle.’’

However, the nature of his comedy meant certain challenges came up in his performances including making political humour work for both adults and children.

He said for kids, he skips the legislation and tricker subject matter.

‘‘You just frame it as your dad or something and throw in a really silly joke.’’
